1977 Shimadzu opened a liaison office “Shimadzu Middle East Consulting Office” in Cairo and started marketing activity in the region.
1995 The office moved to Istanbul Turkey; remained at the Middle East Consulting Office.
2007 “SHIMADZU Middle East & Africa FZE” (SMEA) a subsidiary of Shimadzu Corporation was established in Jebel Ali, Dubai UAE as the regional HQ. At this positive change, Istanbul office was reformed to be Turkey Branch of SMEA and continued increasing the number of staffs for sales, marketing and technical support to help customers. In both facilities Dubai and Istanbul, SMEA started to provide trainings for customers and distributors, and Dubai HQ started logistic services for quicker delivery of spare parts and products for the region.
2011 SMEA established its subsidiary “Shimadzu South Africa” in Johannesburg and launched its direct operation in Analytical and Measurement instruments business.

Shimadzu Middle East & Africa's New Facility in Dubai
On March 5, 2024, Shimadzu Middle East & Africa opened a new state-of-the-art facility in JAFZA, Dubai. The new regional hub is meant to be a center of excellence dedicated to innovation, that will facilitate greater collaborations with researchers and will position us to better serve our customers and advance scientific discoveries.
Strategically located inside Jebel Ali Free Zone and spread over 64,000 sq. ft, the new customer and technology center boasts state-of-the-art laboratories for analytical instruments and testing machines, a medical training center, advanced R&D and integration areas for GC analyzers, training rooms, and order fulfilment and warehousing space.
The analytical laboratory, housing Shimadzu's complete portfolio of analytical and measuring instruments including chromatographs, spectrophotometers, TOC analyzers, mass spectrometers and balances, serves as a space for application development, customer and partner training, and demonstrations of both product capabilities and complete workflow solutions to customers from various markets such as food, environmental, pharmaceutical, clinical, forensics, chemicals and hydrocarbon processing industries (HPI). The system GC integration laboratory highlights Shimadzu's commitment and expertise in designing custom-built GC analyzers, while the material testing laboratory is equipped with universal/tensile testing machines and hardness testing machines for a wide range of applications.
