On March 5, 2024, the inauguration of Shimadzu Middle East & Africa's new modern facility in JAFZA, Dubai, was celebrated with a grand opening ceremony. The event was graced by the presence of key figures, including Mr. Yasunori Yamamoto, President and CEO of Shimadzu Corporation, Mr. Jun Imanishi, Consul General of Japan to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, and Mr. Hamad Al Sayegh, Vice-President - Customer Care, DP World. Noteworthy attendees also included partners, suppliers, and colleagues, making the day a joyous celebration of this significant milestone.
The new customer and technology center underscores Shimadzu's commitment to expanding its presence in the Middle East & Africa region. The presence of officials from the Japanese Consulate and representatives from DP World at the opening ceremony also highlights the support from various stakeholders to foster positive partnerships and future growth prospects.
The ceremony featured speeches from Mr. Akihiko Kato, Managing Director of Shimadzu Middle East & Africa, Mr. Yasunori Yamamoto, Mr. Jun Imanishi, and Mr. Hamad Al Sayegh. Additionally, Mr. Raj Makhamale, Manager – Sales and Marketing Dept., presented the vision, purpose, and impact of the new facility. Afterwards, the dignitaries jointly cut the ribbon, officially inaugurating the facility, followed by a guided tour through the premises.
This new regional hub marks the culmination of years of planning and the fulfillment of our long-standing dream of creating a center of excellence dedicated to innovation, that will facilitate greater collaborations with researchers and will position us to better serve our customers and advance scientific discoveries.
Strategically located inside Jebel Ali Free Zone and spread over 64,000 sq. ft, the new regional hub boasts state-of-the-art laboratories for analytical instruments and testing machines, a medical training center, advanced R&D and integration areas for GC analyzers, training rooms, and order fulfillment and warehousing space.
The analytical laboratory, housing Shimadzu's complete portfolio of analytical and measuring instruments including chromatographs, spectrophotometers, TOC analyzers, mass spectrometers and balances, serves as a space for application development, customer and partner training, and demonstrations of both product capabilities and complete workflow solutions to customers from various markets such as food, environmental, pharmaceutical, clinical, forensics, chemicals and hydrocarbon processing industries (HPI). The system GC integration laboratory highlights Shimadzu's commitment and expertise in designing custom-built GC analyzers, while the material testing laboratory is equipped with universal/tensile testing machines and hardness testing machines for a wide range of applications.
The medical training center, set to host healthcare and radiology professionals from the Middle East, Europe, and Asia Pacific, showcases Shimadzu's advanced imaging systems.
We concluded our opening day ceremony with a celebratory dinner, where we extended heartfelt recognition to our longstanding partners for their invaluable support and dedication.
The opening day's theme, "Waves of the Sea," drew inspiration from the Seigaiha wave pattern, an ancestral Japanese motif, symbolizing rising good luck and representing the waves of the sea – calm and quiet yet powerful and resilient. We believe Shimadzu Middle East & Africa embodies these qualities, and as we embark on this new and exciting journey, the company looks forward to navigating challenges and embracing opportunities with unwavering determination, contributing to society through innovation and excellence.
